I saw a long line of people outside of my office today and knew it was Record Store Day. Rattleback Records in Andersonville – one of the coolest neighborhoods in Chicago – was having a sale. Passionate vinyl lovers were lined up for hours to buy albums.

What does this have to do with the job search? When employers hire, they don’t only want skills. They also look for committed employees who are passionate about their work. During interviews, show them that you care about your work and that you are driven to keep learning and improving your skills. Tell stories that demonstrate how you are self-motivated and focused on quality.
Showing passion as well as skill and experience will often make the difference between someone who gets to the final round of interviews and the person who gets the job offer.
